Good printing filament but wound too 'perfectly'

Good printing filament but wound too 'perfectly'
All in all I really do like this filament. When the prints complete, they are very decent. I get the occasional bed adhesion issue, but a little rubbing alcohol on the mat makes it better. The one consistently bad thing about this filament is how it's wound on the spool. I am usually sitting right in front of my printer so I hear when the filament is getting caught on itself and I can manually roll the spool backwards to release the tension. Finally, last night, I got a breakage and failed a 9 hr print about 1 hr in. This is unacceptable. The best I can tell is that the filament is would too perfectly and when you get to the edges, there isn't a second layer put down before the winder goes back to the other side. So, it basically has a locking mechanism built in to the wrapped pattern every time you get to the edges of the roll. Some of the no-name brands I've tried and were quite happy with have a more random pattern to the wrapping and I've never had an issue. I have all sorts of filament guides and spool roller enhancements so this is a very free-flowing and guided filament going into my printer.

5.0 out of 5 stars some good some bad + UPDATE
Reviewed in the United States on June 6, 2020
First roll was amazing I made many prints I was proud of. They looked professional. Second roll I can't make a single print to the end. I have even reloaded file I previously printed and they are horrible. the material strings and is brittle. I measured the diameter and it is all over the place. I can't speak for the first roll because it was great so I didn't measure. During the first roll I was so impressed I ordered a spool of black. I measured it as well and it is all over the place. from .17 to .18 within an inch. NOT IMPRESSED. Of course this all happened towards the end of a long print. Very unhappy. I feel roll 2 cost me money. Roll 1 was awesome so good luck.

Update...

I have learned alot. I have inspected the rolls more carefully when I receive them. Amazon Basics has actually became my favorite GO TO filament. They have arrived pretty darn consistent. The others must have been a fluke. I print on an Anet ET4 with a temp of 210C and Bed 55C and WOW. I know longer worry about the filament. I have uprated my stars. Go FOR IT!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Finicky filament will force you to find the fitting flow for fantastic effect
Reviewed in the United States on May 27, 2020
While I'm early in my 3D printing experience, this is the second filament--and brand--that I purchased, which provided me with some interesting experiences. First, the sample of filament as well as the first spool of Overture filament I purchased for my Ender 3 Pro printed wonderfully at 200/60C. However, this Amazon Basics filament was causing my extruder to continually make a loud knocking sound while producing some noticeably sub-standard results. Bumping up the temperature to 220/60C greatly reduced the intensity & frequency of the extruder kickback but didn't resolve them entirely. And my output when using the Amazon filament became a coinflip as to whether it would complete or not. The final improvement that ceased the knocking & has been steadily delivering awesome prints was when I adjusted the extruder & updated the flow value for my slicer (Cura 4.6.1). (Here is the video where I learned about measuring the extruder & adjusting the flow value: https://youtu.be/xzQjtWhg9VE). I really like the bright neon orange color which as you can see in the included picture has some translucency to it as you can make out the infill pattern. While I had some frustrations with this filament at first, it provided me with a great learning experience without dissuading me from the enjoyment of 3D printing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Des Impressions de Qualité à Prix Abordable
Reviewed in France on March 1, 2024
